The logistics and supply chain sectors in South Africa are poised for a significant boost as industry leaders, government officials, and international stakeholders prepare to gather at the much-anticipated inaugural Forwarding and Clearing Skills Summit.
The summit, held by the Transport Education and Training Authority (Teta), is scheduled for June 4 and 5 and will be held at Emperor’s Palace Convention Centre.
Teta chief executive Maphefo Anno-Frempong will be joined by other leaders in the industry to co-create solutions to the skills challenges facing the sector in South Africa, a statement by the authority said.
Several high-ranking dignitaries are scheduled to attend the summit, including Minister of Higher Education, Dr Nobuhle Pamela Nkabane, Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, as well as the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Wamkele Keabetswe Mene.
In addition to insights by keynote speakers, attendees can also look forward to various crucial themes and focus area discussions.
Teta said the engaging sessions would look at:
- Future skills in the forward and clearing industry with a focus on express parcel, shipping operators and agents.
- Driving inclusive growth in forwarding and clearing by unlocking policy support and diversified revenue pathways for women, youth, SMMEs and persons with disabilities.
- Funding skills development in the forwarding and clearing industry to power intra-African trade.
- Empowering the forwarding and clearing Industry through a just energy transition by developing skills for a greener and more inclusive economy.
In addition to industry insights, the event will feature exhibitions and networking sessions designed to facilitate partnerships and knowledge exchange.
“Supporting South Africa’s economic growth as Africa’s most developed economy, the country’s forwarding and clearing Industry plays a vital role in regional integration and international trade,” Teta said.
“The summit is expected to reinforce the country’s position as a logistics hub on the continent, attracting investment and fostering a more resilient supply chain infrastructure.
“Looking ahead, with the logistics landscape rapidly changing, the 2025 Inaugural Forwarding and Clearing Summit promises to be an influential gathering that will shape the future direction of South Africa’s trade and logistics skills development policies.”
Teta added that the summit would bring together key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and facilitate cross-sector collaboration for sustained skills development and diversified revenue generation, inspire renewed commitment for empowerment and inclusivity in skills development, and raise awareness on policy and regulatory environment requirements for the forwarding and clearing industry.
“Attendees will gain insights into the future of skills development in the forwarding and clearing sector, connect with industry leaders and explore opportunities.
“Attendees will also have the opportunity to make inputs for Teta’s Skills Master Plan through participation in breakaway sessions.”
