Swiss coffee brand Nestlé’s Angolan subsidiary is reportedly considering the local manufacture of Nescafé-branded coffee and drinks for domestic consumption and for export.
President of the Angolan subsidiary, Wibart Wit, was quoted by local news agency, Angpop, as saying that the company was in talks with government.
“We are assessing the situation in many countries in Africa and looking at how Nestle can help the development and diversification of the economy,” said Wit, adding that Angola’s Nescafé products were still imported given that there was not enough coffee to meet demand.
According to Chinese news service, Macauhub, Angola produced just over 12 000 tonnes of coffee during the 2014/2015 agricultural season.
