A recent survey undertaken by the National Employers’ Association of SA (Neasa) has revealed alarming statistics about the impact of the lockdown on SMMEs.
Some 78% of responding enterprises said that they did not have sufficient cash flow to see them through the lockdown period while 69% believed that they would survive the setback presented by the measures.
These figures however change drastically if the lockdown is extended beyond April.
If that’s the case 92% say they will not have sufficient cash flow and only 29.5% are confident that they will survive the lockdown
The majority of respondents were in the wholesale and retail sector (74%), with 70% in the services sector and 47% in manufacturing.
If the lockdown is extended beyond April, 30% of enterprises in wholesale and retail; 29% in manufacturing; and 25% in services believe they will not survive
