The Suez Canal authority has announced it will raise the charges on northbound containerships with six or more tiers of containers on deck from January 3, reports Transport Weekly. For ships with six tiers of boxes on deck, the surcharge will increase to 18% from 16%, and for each tier above six, an extra two percent increase will be imposed. There is no increase on southbound ships.
