There is no truth to rumours that vessel navigation through the Suez Canal has been suspended as a result of the conflict in the Red Sea, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has confirmed.
SCA chairman and managing director, Ossama Rabiee, said in a statement that vessel navigation through the canal was going ahead normally in both directions, denying rumours that operations had been affected by strikes by US and UK forces and the resumption of
attacks by the Houthi rebels last week.
He said there was no truth to the rumours circulating in the maritime navigation community of a temporary suspension of navigation via the canal as a result of developments in the Bab-el-Mandeb region.
Raibee said the SCA was providing navigational services as usual and that it had expected to see at least 44 vessels with a total net tonnage of 2.3 million tonnes transiting the canal in both directions on Saturday.
He said the SCA was keen to open communication channels directly with lines to jointly co- ordinate what would be in the best interest of the maritime community to ensure the sustainability of global supply chains.
