TRANSNET NATIONAL Ports
Authority chief operating
officer Anthony Diepenbroek
has resigned unexpectedly
after only six months in
the position. Diepenbroek,
a former chief executive
officer in listed property
development companies,
was brought into Transnet
late last year to focus on the
company’s strategic business
objectives. Among these
responsibilities were the
attainment of safe, efficient
and affordable port services
and oversight of the NPA’s
marine operational services at
all ports.
While not commenting on
the reasons for his departure,
insiders have hinted that
internal politics within
Transnet and the NPA played
a major role in Diepenbroek’s
decision to leave.
When he was appointed
at the end of last year the
Transnet chief operating
executive said his
appointment was intended to
ensure that the TNPA would
improve its ports.
It has been reported that
Diepenbroek is moving back
into the property business
this month.
