THE MARITIME Studies class at New Forest High School recently held an Open Day for companies - mostly from the shipping community - which are helping sponsor the three classes in grades 10, 11 and 12.
Captain Salvatore Sarno of MSC, the main sponsor, told learners that many opportunities in the industry awaited those who applied themselves. He warned that the marine industry required long hours and hard work to succeed, but offered lots of rewarding challenges.
Two of the learners, who are in grade 12 this year (matric), Mpho Dlamini
and Jesse van der Taag, told Captain Sarno that they had decided to study maritime law when they completed school later this year. Captain Sarno assured them of MSC's continued support and added that he would be keeping an eye on their progress.
