Steady rise in breakbulk cargo

There is tangible evidence
of continued investment in
Namibia’s mining sector in the
form of out-of-gauge cargo being
imported through the country’s
ports.
Manica Group Namibia
has seen a steady increase of
breakbulk cargo flowing through
the ports of Walvis Bay and
Lüderitz, according to spokesman
Nolito Marques.
A large volume of these heavy
cargoes is destined for the
surrounding mines, he says.
Manica’s Walvis Bay-based
clearing subsidiary, Woker Freight
Services, has managed some of
the loads.
One of the largest hydraulic
CAT shovels, the 6060FS, was
offloaded in more than 50 parts
with a total weight of 636 metric
tonnes.
WFS also handled a CAT 7495
shovel.
