Spoornet is getting tougher with the National Railways of Zimbabwe over millions of rand owing for the hire of wagons.
Users of Spoornet wagons in Zimbabwe now have to pay the charge for the distance in South Africa directly to Spoornet in South Africa or Zimbabwe.
Previously payment was made to NRZ, which was supposed to pass on the money to Spoornet.
In the last six months NRZ has been increasingly late with the payments and in some cases has not paid at all.
The move comes after a recent Spoornet stipulation that the NRZ has to pay its charges for the wagon hire before it can use them.
It is understood that the NRZ owes about R15million for wagon hire, and shows no sign of trying to pay the bill.
The parastatal is said to be losing considerable sums of money.
