The Society of Master Mariners (SOMMSA) and the General Botha Old Boys’ Association (GBOBA) Bursary Funds are appealing for industry sponsorship of the next SVITZER marine bursary fundraising golf day to be held at the Rondebosch Golf Club in Cape Town on Thursday, November 21 this year. “This year SVITZER has generously stepped forward and bought the naming rights for the golf day. Their donation will kick-start our promotion of this popular maritime event which is our major, annual fund-raising endeavour for SOMMSA and GBOBA’s Bursary Funds,” said Captain Tony Nicholas, Cape Town chairman of GBOBA. The bursaries are for marine-orientated studies at the Lawhill Maritime Centre and at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology or Durban University of Technology. “The maritime industry’s support of this fund-raising effort is critical for the continuation of these bursary programmes,” he said.
