Skills gap persists despite large enrolments

At least 5000 students have registered with the University of Johannesburg’s department of transport and supply chain management this year. According to senior researcher Rose Luke, this bodes well for the country’s logistics and transport industry that continues to be plagued by major skills shortages. Luke told FTW the department’s Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS) had found in a recent study that skills shortages remained a concern. The study conducted by the ITLS found there was still a long way to go to closing the skills gap.
