SARS rolls out electronic clearance

SA REVENUE Services today confirmed the roll-out dates of its electronic clearance system for “known clients”. According to Hennie Marais of customs in Pretoria - who was seconded to the Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) to bed-in the test run last year - Pretoria will go online on February 3; Cape Town International Airport, February 10; CT seafreight office, February 17; Port Elizabeth seafreight, February 24; PE International Airport, March 3; Durban seafreight, March 10; Durban International Airport, March 17; Beit Bridge, March 24; and East London, March 31. “You will notice that the date for Germiston is still outstanding,” said Marais. “But they are due to be moving offices, and we will wait till this has been completed before installation of the system there.”
