This month saw the appointment of David Williams as chief executive officer of Safmarine after Grant Daly stepped down from the position at the end of June.
Williams was previously the managing director of Maersk Line East China.
He has worked for the Maersk Group for 24 years and has assumed numerous leadership roles within the AP Moller-Maersk group’s liner business. He joined Safmarine in 1986 and worked in different sales and commercial roles in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Hamburg until 2000. He later held several managerial positions with Maersk Line southern Africa until 2007.
Daly stepped down “to prioritise the longer-term healthcare of his family” according to a company statement. He will relocate to a position within the group’s liner business organisation in the USA.
Daly was appointed Safmarine CEO in February 2012. He joined Safmarine in 1994 and held various executive roles within the company, leading the multipurpose vessel division in the previous Antwerp headquarters, as well as leading the West and Central Asia and Asia regions.
