The World Customs Organisation (WCO) issued the following press release:
From the 26-30 October 2015, the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) Secretariat and the WCO, under the WCO SACU Connect Project funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), convened a workshop in Johannesburg to develop a SACU Preferred Trader Utility Block (PT UB) and finalise the SACU Unique Consignment Reference (UCR) Number. A WCO GNC expert facilitated and provided technical guidance to this meeting. The meeting was attended by SACU Customs IT, PT and Customs Procedures Experts as well as the WCO Regional Project Manager.
The final draft of the SACU UCR will be submitted to the Project Steering Committee in November 2015 for consideration. Further work is needed on finalising the SACU PT Utility Block which will be one of the enablers for the SACU Preferred Trader Programme.
