South African Airways (SAA) is set to resume direct flights between Johannesburg and Perth, Australia, in April, according to a statement from Perth Airport.
The airline suspended these flights in 2019 due to its financial difficulties, which cast doubt on its viability.
The announcement of the flights, the first of which will be on April 28, was welcomed by Perth Airport.
Kate Holsgrove, the airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, expressed her delight at SAA's return to Perth after three years, particularly given the additional impact of the pandemic.
The non-stop flight will operate three times per week on an Airbus A340-300 aircraft, providing numerous seats for both leisure and business travel, as well as new opportunities for cargo.
Holsgrove said: "Once we resume these flights, we will work with South African Airways with the aim of rebuilding back to a daily service."
