South African Airways has appointed NAC2000 Corporation Limited as its general sales agent in Zambia.

The appointment came into effect on 1 July.

The airline said: “This strategic partnership aims to strengthen SAA Cargo’s position in Zambia, a key market for South African Airways.”

SAA Cargo said NAC2000 brought expanded coverage to the airline’s brand reach in Zambia, thanks to the service provider’s physical presence through Zambia’s industrial heartland, which included the key cities – Lusaka, Ndola and Kitwe.

Nontobeko Mohube, regional sales manager for SAA Cargo, said: “The collaboration is expected to drive market growth and enhance customer service.”

Jonathan Lewis, managing director of NAC2000, shares Mohube’s excitement over the development, emphasising the commitment of the two entities for mutual value and growth.

“We have a long-standing partnership with SAA Cargo,” said Lewis.

“For us it’s an extension of the existing relationship and will enhance synergies.”

The appointment of NAC2000 as GSA for SAA bodes well for shippers and freight forwarders using an air cargo route that sees 50 tonnes of exports airfreighted from Zambia to South Africa annually, mainly with OR Tambo International Airport as the final destination.

SAA said: “Key exports include perishables and courier material.

“There is also notable growth in the e-commerce sector from Johannesburg to Zambia.”
