35 South African companies will head off to Mozambique on Sunday on a five-day trade and investment mission organised by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti).
One of the delegates, Jardus Smith, export manager of Clotan Building Systems, said the LNG projects in Cabo Delgado would change the Mozambican economic landscape and create many opportunities.
Executive director of the Steel Tube Export Association of South Africa, Keitumetse Moumakoe, said the mission would help South African steel manufacturers identify tubular products that they could supply for the gas exploration projects.
“We are also looking for possible opportunities for investment and partnerships with Mozambican companies that are also gearing themselves to take part in the energy projects. Our goal is to see South African steel tube products being exported to Mozambique for use in the projects,” said Moumakoe.
Mozambique is South Africa’s third largest trading partner on the continent, with total trade between the pair breaching the R50bn mark in 2018. South African companies have invested over R90bn in Mozambique since the start of 2003.
