Russia’s largest rail and locomotive manufacturer, Transmashholding (TMH), has awarded South African company SME Exports a $33m contract to supply the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) with 800 heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Of the 1 300 coaches ordered by the ENR, 800 will be equipped with HVAC systems.
The systems will be delivered to Russia and Hungary for final fittings, before being shipped to Egypt where SME will provide further warranty and commissioning support.
Commenting on the new partnership, Martin Vaujour, CEO of TMH International, said the new partnership would breed a global ecosystem of rail conglomerates striving for the same goals.
“We aim to develop rail industrial ecosystems together with global and local suppliers. We look forward to working with SME Exports as a model of cross-country cooperation between South Africa, Egypt, Hungary and Russia, benefiting all parties,” said Vaujour.
The company has been supplying HVAC systems to customers in South Africa and Botswana, but joins the global supply chain market with this new contract.
