IN A move which will create what is believed to be the world's largest supplier of vehicle and ro-ro transportation services, Wallenius Lines of Stockholm and Wilh Wilhelmsen of Oslo last week signed an agreement to establish a joint operating company for the activities of both lines.
The company will be a 50/50 venture and will operate more than 70 specialised vessels for cars and other vehicles, ro-ro equipment and non-containerisable cargo, as well as container capacity on certain trades.
A further ten new vessels are due to be delivered in 1999 and 2000.
The merger will take effect on July 1. The new company will be headquarterd in both Oslo and Stockholm. President and CEO will
be Ingar Skaug, president of Wilhelmsen Lines. Christer Olsson, president of Wallenius Lines, will be chairman of the board.
According to Skaug, the existing services of the two lines are complementary. By joining forces the geographical service network will be broadened and the service quality will become more flexible.
