WITH A restructuring of its SA organisation, Neville Bedford has now left Lykes Lines, while Mike Renard has been appointed g.m. Africa - and based in Durban. Renard comes from an eight-year stint with CCAL - the Africa-North America shipping line which Lykes acquired last year. His experience in the industry spans 26 years. He will be responsible for the three offices in SA (Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town) - and the agents in East and West Africa. Renard will also be guiding the fortunes of the line's two, multi-purpose services between Africa and North America. The five-vessel East Coast Service sails every two weeks, calling at Montreal, Philadelphia, Savannah, Cape Town, Durban, Cape Town, Philadelphia and Montreal (Hamilton and Toronto are added during the April-December Lakes season). The Gulf Service operates monthly, northbound only, calling Durban, Cape Town, Salvador, New Orleans, Houston and Veracruz - with inducement calls at other ports in Brazil, Venezuela, the Caribbean and North America.
