In an earlier issue we reminded you of the following. If you have not already acted on the advice, you are leaving it very late. On 10 October 2011 the South African Revenue Service (Sars) published a letter titled “Reminder to Renew Licences for 2012”. The letter reads as follows: This Office’s letter SC-CF-01-L129 dated 29 June 2010 refers. In terms of Section 60(1), the Rules thereto and Schedule 8 of the Customs and Excise Act, clearing agent and road haulier licences are valid for a period of one year and must be renewed annually by the 31st of December. You are hereby reminded to renew your licence(s) for 2012 by 31 December 2011 as failure to comply with this request will result in the cancellation of your Customs code. The DA 185 and the relevant annexure(s) must be completed for purposes of licence renewal in terms of Rule 60.01(1)(C). Proof must be attached to the DA 185 where there has been a change in the company’s information and the new information must be inserted on the DA 185. You are further advised that clients who do not submit the applications for the renewal of licence(s) by the end of December 2011 may automatically be cancelled and will have to go through the full licensing process. Your co-operation in this regard will be highly appreciated. For ease of reference the letter dated 29 June 2010, titled “Non Renewal Of Licences By Customs-Licensed Clients”, reads as follows: Section 60 and the Rules thereto of the Customs and Excise Act refers. Please ensure that your respective Clearing Agent and/or Road Haulier licence(s) have been renewed. Non renewal of licences on or before 7 days from the date of receipt of the letter from the respective Branch Office(s) will result in your code being cancelled. A DA 185 and the relevant annexure(s) must be completed for purposes of licence renewal which is in terms of Rule 60.01 (1)(C). Please note that any application for renewal after the due date will result in the application being subject to the standard licensing process, and you will not be able to trade until the application is finalised. The various Customs Branch Offices have been advised to enforce the content of this letter. Your co-operation is appreciated.
