Reducing Maputo congestion

A new intermodal facility has been opened in the port of Maputo in order to improve efficiencies in the DP World container terminal. This new terminal will handle and store containers for the packing and unpacking of cargoes within the Port of Maputo. It is made up of an 8 000- sqm warehouse, an empty container yard with slots for 2 000 TEUs and a 300-TEU full container yard. Built at an estimated cost of $30 million, MICD has the capacity to store up to 120 000 tons of general cargo a year, according to communications and image manager Soraia Abdula.
