Shipments from Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) have continued as normal after both rail lines carrying coal to the operation were closed following a derailment early in the month.

“We’re operating as normal,” RBCT spokeswoman Zama Luthuli told Bloomberg. “We have three-million tons of stock on the ground.” She declined to say how much tonnage would have been delayed by the derailment.

While RBCT is capable of shipping 91-million metric tons of coal a year, it exported 63.4-mt in 2010, said CEO Raymond Chirwa. Deliveries to the terminal were hindered by derailments and strikes.
