RICHARDS BAY Coal Terminal and Spoornet last week passed the one billion ton mark - one billion tons of export coal transported down the coal line exported and shipped from the port in 24 years while earning the country something like R230 billion in foreign currency.
Since 1 April, 1976, when the terminal was opened, 11 000 ships have called to load coal for different destinations around the world, while it has taken more than 12 million rail trucks to deliver the export coal from the mine face to the port.
