On 29 May 2026, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced an increase in the ‘General’ rate of customs duty on rails, classifiable in tariff subheading 7302.10, in Part 1 of Schedule No.1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 (Ordinary Customs Duty) from 5% ad valorem to 10% ad valorem.
