R50m-manufacturing plant opens in Gauteng

BFG Africa will produce material made of fibre-reinforced plastic.

BFG Africa on Friday unveiled its R50-million composite manufacturing facility in Germiston, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (Dtic) announced.

The plant is set to produce materials for infrastructure and the mining, automotive, transport and architectural industries.

“The investment will also lead to new jobs being created and by the end of December 2019, will result in the full staff complement of 120,” Dtic minister Ebrahim Patel said.

The scale of investment would allow the group to achieve production capacity to meet local requirements as well as exports into the sub-Saharan markets, he added.

BFG Africa is a subsidiary of global composite engineering company BFG International in Bahrain.

The plant was set up in response to the group being awarded the Alstom/Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa tender.
