The R35-million project to upgrade the Temba Driver Licence and Testing Centre (DLTC) has been completed and the facility was officially opened yesterday (Thursday) by Gauteng premier, David Makhura, and MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi.
The DLTC upgrade project included investment in new technologies to help combat fraud and corruption during licence testing as well as the addition of a Motor Vehicle Registering Authority.
The centre – located in Hammanskraal, Tshwane – is expected to reduce waiting time and backlogs as well as increase capacity, allowing up to 12 vehicles to undertake testing at the same time.
A government statement released today noted that the opening of the DLTC was the direct result of a resolved petition in which the Temba Driving School Association and community members requested intervention with regard to its “temporary closure” since 2014.
