RAY SMUTS THE DEPARTMENT of agriculture will grant the wine industry R3 million for the expansion of its testing programme for flavourants and to ensure better policing of this illegal practice. So far only three Sauvignon Blanc wines, one from Laborie (a KWV enterprise) and two from the KWV, have fallen foul of the law. Two winemakers have been sacked for ‘doctoring’ their wine which, some say, is aimed at enhancing the flavour.
