PROTEKON’S EXECUTIVE manager for KZN, Paris Foolchand, recently received an ISO9001: 2000 certificate from the SABS in Durban. Protekon is currently involved in a number of projects around the province and further afield, most of them within the Transnet stable. Among these are extensions to the Durban Car Terminal, which involve the design and building of a three storey parking garage for import and export vehicles, as well as an overhead bridge connecting the terminal with the quayside. The company is also undertaking the refurbishment of the Queen’s Warehouse in Point Road, which will become SA Port Operations City Terminal headquarters. Other projects include rehabilitation of the Richards Bay coal line, various signalling projects and an involvement in the Port of Durban Development 2005 at Pier 1 and the Point. ISO9001: 2000 requires procedures to be built on all site projects and remains a ‘living project’ that is constantly audited, meaning it is up to all Protekon personnel to maintain the high standards required.
