On 26 May 2026, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) advised that the “Prohibited and Restricted Imports and Exports List” had been updated with tariff subheading 8544.49.29 “Insulated (including enamelled or anodised) wire, cable (including co-axial cable) and other insulated electric conductors, whether or not fitted with connectors; optical fibre cables, made up of individually sheathed fibres, whether or not assembled with electric conductors or fitted with connectors: Other electric conductors, for a voltage not exceeding 1,000V: Other: Plastic insulated: For a voltage exceeding 500V”, now needing to be detained for NRCS and now subject to a Letter of Authority for imports only.
