The first phase of renovation work at the port of Nacala, in Mozambique’s Nampula province, is due to begin in March and the contract for the work was awarded to Japanese company Penta-Ocean Construction, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported. The work is expected to cost the equivalent of R274.3 million and involves paving the patio of the current general cargo terminal, repairing the concrete structure of the northern dock, and reinforcing the pillars and the surface of the northern dock area. The contract also includes modernisation of the current liquid fuel terminal and installation of a fire fighting system, as well as acquiring port handling equipment such as industrial forklifts and container gantry cranes.
