The Port of Cape Town’s new fuel storage facility is now fully operational according to a statement released by Transnet National Ports Authority.
The new fuel storage and distribution facility for cleaner fuels – operated by black-empowered company Burgan Cape Terminals – is designed to assist with the security of fuel supply in the region.
“With an estimated investment of R890 million, the awarding of this contract to a 30% black-owned company in partnership with an international operator speaks strongly to Transnet’s commitment to the Market Demand Strategy and the vision of the Operaion Phakisa programme of creating capacity ahead of demand and unlocking South Africa’s ocean economy,” said Cape Town port manager, Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana.
The facility has a total capacity of 121 908 cubic metres from 12 tanks and its product portfolio includes diesel, petrol and ethanol for blending and jet fuel.
