The Port of Cape Town is open for business today despite reports to the contrary published in Freight News late yesterday.
When we were told late last night that the port would in fact be open for business, we immediately removed the news item.
In response to the story, Gary Kleyn, client services manager at Cape Town Container Terminal, also sent out the following email to freight industry concerns:
"At this time, you may possibly be aware of certain media reports citing that the port authorities have closed the Port of Cape Town and implied that the Cape Town Container Terminal will also be closed as from tomorrow.
TPT (Transnet Port Terminals) would like to provide our customers and stakeholders with the confidence that these reports are unsupported and have already created untold uncertainty and damage in the market place. We would like to confirm that, despite the current pandemic challenges and reduced services during this time in our history, the terminal is not closing and all firmed export stacks will be processed.
Freight News apologises for the erroneous report and the “uncertainty and damage in the market place” it created.
We remain committed to being a credible news source for the freight industry.
Sincerely
