Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the execution style shooting of two men, allegedly by security guards who work on contract at Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) in Richards Bay.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that police had swooped on three suspects who were expected to file a bail application on Friday, April 1.

Police in Northern KwaZulu Natal are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping which have been opened at Mtubatuba and KwaMsane police stations following the execution-style shootings last Wednesday morning. One of the injured victims, who managed to flee the scene of the shooting, was admitted to hospital.

Police earlier said that two men, aged 27 and 17, had been kidnapped in Richards Bay on March 22 at around 3pm before their kidnappers shot them in Mtubatuba and KwaMsane. The body of a 27-year-old man was found at a farm with assault wounds and a gunshot wound to the head. He was declared dead at the scene. The 17-year-old victim was shot and wounded and was found at Nseleni.

TFR earlier issued a statement in which it said that security guards in the Richards Bay Junction area were “allegedly involved in a serious breach of their duties”.

TFR said there had allegedly been a confrontation between the security guards and two young men in the area before the guards “kidnapped the two and took them to a deserted area where they were tied up and shot”.
