AS MORE and more companies recognise that the reality of BEE procurement is here to stay, for many outsourcing has provided the win-win solution on which long-term business relationships are built.
A good example is Gauteng-based BEE company Katlego Global Logistics which has set up a number of symbiotic relationships with the multinational forwarding community.
“A good example is our relationship with Expeditors,” says managing director Moses Maboi.
“Starting from a limited base, they have been outsourcing their local distribution to us. It’s a relationship that embraces the true spirit of empowerment and we’ve seen volumes grow considerably based on the service and efficiency we are able to offer.
“The recent addition of six new vehicles means that our fleet now stands at 50, and on any day of the working week you’re likely to see a Katlego vehicle at Expeditors’ premises.
“Katlego has always marketed itself as a one-stop, full logistics service, and by outsourcing non-core activities we have been able to achieve this. While distribution is one of our in-house activities, strong partnerships provide access to global muscle,” says Maboi.
It’s required a total change of mindset in the industry, with competitors aligning with each other in an increasingly competitive market. But their joint objective is the same - to provide the most efficient and cost-effective solution for the customer.
“We believe that our growing customer base demonstrates that the formula is working,” he added.
Katlego recently moved into new premises in Cape Town with a warehousing facility.
