After a brief hiatus, Walvis Bay is back in the business of refurbishing oil rigs – and this time they are for Namibian rather than Angolan waters. The Transocean Marianas, an Earl & Wright Sedco 700 semi-submersible rig, called on Walvis Bay earlier this month for a three-week maintenance service before being used to drill in Namibia’s Walvis and Orange basins. Walvis Bay is catering for rigs in its R3-bn expansion programme, which includes a designated ship and rig repair berth capable of accommodating two large semi-submersible oil rigs, as well as drill ships.
