Notice to Diamond Industry

The South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator has informed all licensed producers, dealers, beneficiators, researchers and trading houses, by means of a notice, that “every producer, manufacturer of synthetic diamonds, dealer, cutter or toolmaker shall keep or cause to be kept the prescribed register, in which shall be entered the prescribed particulars in respect of unpolished diamonds”. The notice further indicates a stipulation in terms of the Regulations of The Diamond Act that “licensees are required to keep Form J Registers and shall, within seven days after the end of the month, forward to the Regulator a true copy of such a Register in respect of the month”. In addition, it states that “you will be liable for a penalty of R50.00 for every month that you fail to submit your J Register. Failure to comply with the submission will result in you furnishing the Regulator with reasons why your licence should not be suspended and ultimately cancelled”.
