A new training company aimed at risk mitigation in the transportation of high-value cargo and dangerous goods has just been launched. International Security and Risk Management (ISRM) will provide comprehensive courses designed to prevent accidents, mitigate risks and manage incidents in this niche sector, according to directors Ernst Walters and Jaco de Kock. “With our combined experience in the police force and the vehicle tracking industry, we have identified security gaps in the industry which we hope our training and consultation will address,” said De Kock. The training is tailored to the needs of small- to medium-sized businesses as large organisations often have their own security and risk management teams. “Often smaller companies are specifically targeted because criminals know they don’t have the luxury of an in-house security team,” said Walters. And while the training is mainly aimed at prevention, counselling and incident management are also provided. “Operators are trained to deal with a traumatised driver, for example, so they understand the dynamics of a situation and know how to pick up on stress indicators,” said Walters. The training is offered in two phases – theoretical and practical – and can be tailored to suit a company’s specific needs. “We also address certain legal issues, ensuring our training is constantly adapted to reflect new safety and incident management legislation,” said de Kock. The company can also be contracted to analyse and identify security risks and advise on the training needs and other steps that can be taken to mitigate risks.
