New standard covers gas containers

A NEW standard which covers the requirements for the design, manufacture, use and maintenance of refillable gas containers of sizes 0,5 to 3 000 litres water capacity, has been launched by the SA Bureau of Standards. It's the latest edition of SABS 019 and provides clarity for all those involved in the use or testing of industrial gas cylinders. "The dangers and risks in the design, use and maintenance of gas containers are well known," said Larry Kloppenborg, deputy director of the Department of Labour's Occupational Health and Safety Directorate. "Without a technically sound and practical standard like SABS 019, South Africa would be left dangerously exposed," he said.
