New roofing speeds up warehouse construction

A new roofing material and system combined with repurposed containers is enabling companies to fast-track the building of warehouses, workshops and other covered areas.

The system is also suitable for remote locations, says Mathieu van Hout, project manager at Container World Namibia.

He says the “tented structures” are already in use in Namibia, including a new workshop facility at the Container World premises in Windhoek.

All components, including the covering, can be transported on standard flat-bed trucks. Container World specialises in the refurbishment and conversion of containers.

Refurbished and converted containers are either sold or rented. The range includes refrigerated containers.

“We can construct just about whatever you like out of containers,” he says. Projects in which the company has been involved include the provision of warehousing, ablution and accommodation blocks, mobile camps and storage facilities.

Recent projects include the provision of the structure for a cash store and a car hire office at the Windhoek airport terminal. There is also a range of “flat pack” accommodation and office modules designed to be transported on any truck or trailer that can take containers.

Used containers are sourced from around the world, he says. “We are bringing in containers from Europe because they are of better quality than containers from elsewhere,” he says.
