Following the resignation of port managers in Cape Town and Saldanha, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has made several senior appointments in the Eastern and Western Cape, according to a statement released by the eThekwini Maritime Cluster last week.
The TNPA has appointed Cape Town’s first female port manager, Mpumi Dweba, at the Port of Cape Town. Dweba has experience in port operations, supply chain logistics, and the maritime industry and previously served as port manager at the Port of Ngqura.
Captain Vernal Jones, who served as harbour master at the Port of Richard’s Bay and Cape Town, has succeeded Willem Roux as port manager at the Port of Saldanha. According to TNPA, he brings extensive knowledge of marine operations to the table.
Former Mossel Bay port manager, Tandi Lebakeng, has been transferred to the Port of Ngqura to take over from Dweba. She has been with Transnet for more than 20 years and has experience in trade and logistics, business strategy and planning and development.
