A new German container line capable of carrying extra-large intermodal containers measuring 53 feet has been launched to address lagging capacity issues on Cross-Pacific cargo.

According to news out this morning, Carrier53’ will serve dedicated routes between the Chinese ports of Qingdao, Taicang, Humen, and the US West Coast ports of Portland and Los Angeles.

The line was launched with the backing of container leasing firm Lotus Carriers in Egestorf south of Hamburg, where Carrier53’ is headquartered.

The CEO of Lotus Carriers, Willem Alexander-Dous, is the managing partner of the line.

The development is already receiving plaudits from some of the most respected sources of analysis in ocean freight.

Alphaliner described the emergence of Carrier53’ as good news for the scarcity of allocations in a market dominated by sold-out sailings.

Through diverse means of cargo distribution and the customisation of multipurpose vessels, Carrier53’ was capable of carrying oversized boxes, the shipping aggregator said.

Apart from being principally dedicated to the east-west liner trade, Carrier53’ is also offering sailings on other routes, namely an upcoming service from Hamburg to Veracruz in Mexico.
