Namport inaugurates new cranes

Namibia’s ports authority has inaugurated new cargo handling equipment for the ports of Lüderitz and Walvis Bay.

Described as “a significant milestone”, Namport commented: “We are proud to announce the commissioning of three state-of-the-art mobile harbour cranes, recently delivered from the world-renowned manufacturer, Liebherr Cranes.”

Namport said that at Walvis Bay, the robust LHM 550 (154-ton) and the versatile LHM 280 (84-ton) had been added to the fleet.

For the southern, smaller Port of Lüderitz, a third and first-ever LHM 280 unit has already been allocated and delivered.

The ports authority added that the cranes underscored the country’s commitment “to gradually modernising its fleet to minimise service disruptions and enhance productivity.

“These new Liebherr cranes are a crucial step in fulfilling that commitment, significantly boosting operational efficiency and service reliability”.
