The full-scale rehabilitation programme for the main arterial road at Durban Container Terminal (DCT) is now almost half completed.

In its 35-year lifespan, the road – the main supply route for the North, South and East quays, and which handles about 3 000 trucks and other vehicles daily – had deteriorated to the extent that normal maintenance was no longer feasible.

So, last November, Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) rolled out Phase 1 of its comprehensive, two-part road rehabilitation project.

And, according to Brenda Magqwaka, GM of KZN Operations Containers, despite already foreseen underground service risks, the overall project is now 47% complete.
