Airports Company South Africa has appointed a new board to oversee its R21 billion airport upgrade programme at main airport gateways, OR Tambo, Cape Town and King Shaka International Airports.
The new board includes members with experience in aviation infrastructure, engineering, ICT, procurement, risk, governance and supply chain management.
Chairman Irvin Phenyane has over 20 years’ aviation experience, including work on greenfield airport projects and aviation destination development. He has previously served as a non-executive director at Acsa and the Transport Education Training Authority and has also served on the International Air Services Licensing Council.
Kurt Parker, who is expected to join the board on August 6, has more than 26 years’ experience in procurement, supply chain, operations strategy and Africa logistics. Acsa said his appointment would strengthen the company’s supply chain resilience.
Keitumetse Mahlangu has experience in transport regulation and public-sector governance, including service on the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency.
Theunis Chamberlain has over 28 years’ aviation engineering and ICT experience, including an eight-year period at OR Tambo International Airport, where he served as head of electrical and electronic maintenance. His experience includes airport management, ICAO standards, systems design and programme management.
Surendra Sooklal brings experience in risk management, audit, compliance, business continuity, crisis management and cybersecurity, including previous involvement with the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
Other board members appointed are Xoliswa Daku, Roy Mnisi and Ulandi Exner.
“The arrival of the new Board members comes at a pivotal moment for Acsa as it accelerates its R21 billion airports upgrade programme and innovation strategy to enhance connectivity, passenger experience and operational resilience,” Acsa said in a statement.
