On 01 August 2023, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) informed that, in respect of the Prohibited and Restricted Imports and Exports List, for the import of municipal waste, an import permit is required from the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC).
The full tariff classification is:
- Chapter 38: Miscellaneous Chemical Products
- Tariff Heading 38.25: Residual products of the chemical or allied industries, not elsewhere specified or included; municipal waste; sewerage sludge; or other wastes specified in Note 6 to this chapter:
- Tariff Subheading 3825.10: Municipal waste
