Initial estimates of containers lost on board the container vessel MSC Zoe last month have been revised from 290 to around 345, according to Dutch maritime agency, Rijkswaterstaat.
Although it was still awaiting a final count, the agency said in a statement on its website that the figure had been adjusted after the vessel discharged cargo in the Polish city of Gdansk and underwent a more extensive check.
The 23 000-TEU ultra-large container vessel encountered strong winds on its way to the German port of Bremerhaven early last month when hundreds of containers fell into the water.
MSC has yet to comment on the cause of the loss although Dutch authorities have launched a criminal enquiry into whether any national pollution laws had been breached after the content of many of the containers washed up on the shores of the islands of Terschelling and Vlieland.
A salvage operation is still under way.
