MSC became the owner of the world’s biggest box shop after Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy delivered the 400-metre-long vessel to the line three weeks ahead of schedule.
The carrier has been named the MSC Galsun and is capable of carrying 23 756 TEUs.
Apart from its football-field length, the Galsun is 61.5 metres wide and 33.2 metres high.
It’s one of five 23 000+ TEU vessels that MSC has ordered from Seoul-based Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering yard through Samsung Heavy.
The Galsun also serves as a continuation of MSC’s ambition to trend ahead with record-breaking TEU capacity.
In 2015 the line made news when it took delivery of the MSC Oscar, a box ship capable of carrying more than 19 200 TEUs, a benchmark-setter for box capacity back then.
