É and launches Med Ð FE service Terry Hutson THE UNINTERRUPTED expansion of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) continues with two new services introduced during the past week. The one closest to home is a weekly service between South African ports and Angola, which, says MSC's managing director Captain Salvatore Sarno, "is in order to complete our Africa service." He told FTW that this was in response to continuing strong demand from the market, and was being introduced in partnership with Unicorn Shipping whose vessels would be used. Cape Town would be used as a transhipment port for Angolan cargoes from Europe and North America, he said. The other major development is the introduction of a completely new service operating between Mediterranean ports and the Far East, known as the Dragon Service. Eight vessels of about 2 200 TEU each will operate the weekly named-day service with a port rotation of Shanghai, Xiamen, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Valencia, Barcelona, Fos, La Spezia, Jebel Ali, Singapore, Chiwan, Shanghai. The Dragon Service was launched from Shanghai on September 19 and complements the existing Silk Service which is in operation with ten of the new 6 700 TEU ships.
