Moz, China and SA firms sign agreement on US$6bn gas pipeline project

Oil and gas company SacOil Holdings has signed a cooperation agreement with various Chinese, South Africa and Mozambican firms for the construction of a US$6-billion natural gas pipeline in Mozambique.

CEO of the Johannesburg-based company, Dr Thabo Kgogo, commented that the agreement gave the green light for the development of a 2 600-kilometre natural gas pipeline that will transport natural gas from the Rovuma Basin in northern Mozambique to South Africa's Gauteng province.

“The Mozambique gas project is central to the growth strategy of SacOil to become a leading Pan African oil and gas company. The inclusion of ENH and Profin strengthens our partnership with local Mozambican companies in the area of oil and gas and the energy sectors,” he said.

The signatories of the agreement with SacOil are Mozambican state oil company ENH, Mozambique’s Profin Consulting consortium, and China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau, a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).
